Things to See and Do in London

If this your first time taking a flight to London you're bound to be excited. Once you have arrived in this great city you can continue that excitement because there is so much to do that you'll never have the chance to get bored. Check out our guide to all of the leading London attractions and discover all that there is to see and do.

London is a great place to vacation; the only problem is that there is so much to see. Many people say that you could stay in London for years and still not see all of the beautiful, historic, and downright interesting locations in the city. When in London you can fulfill your tastes for art, museums, zoos, gardens, clubs, theatre, music, and great food. London brings together all things old and new so that there are interesting galleries, museums, and events that will interest just about every tourist. London really does offer something for everyone.

A popular area is Covent Garden, which is not actually a garden at all. It is instead a disused flower market that has been transformed into a pedestrianized zone full of shops, street performers, bars, pubs, restaurants, and more. It is also located in what is known as Londons theatreland and The Royal Opera House is located adjacent to the main market square.

Westminster Abbey is another location that should be seen if at all possible. This is the burial place of many well known kings, scientists, and even poets. Luckily, Westminster Abbey is very near Buckingham Palace where visitors can see beautiful gardens, observe areas of the Palace as well as the "Changing of the Guard", which is a must see. There are also several churches and cathedrals in the area, though one of the most famous of all, St Pauls Cathedral, is located just east of the centre of the city.

If Wall Street in the United States is your thing, you may find The City in London has the same draw and attraction for you. The area that is much like Wall Street in London is very old and in fact dates back to before currency had even been invented.

There are many outdoor markets in London that are an experience all their own. Borough Market just south of London Bridge has been thriving for more than 1,000 years, which is amazing. The atmosphere is very interesting, especially for those that have never experienced such a market. Camden Lock market is open daily but truly comes to life at weekends. At Portobello Road market you'll find antiquities of every type - Be sure to know your stuff though before forking out for that ever so real looking piece, there's a small possibility that it could be fake. Not only are there fun things to buy at these markets, you can get some really tasty and interesting foods to eat too!

If parks are your thing, you'll find that London is a lovely place to be. Some of the most well known parks are St. James, Hyde Park, and Regents Park. Many of the parks offer wildlife and plant life that cannot be seen anywhere else. Holland Park is also interesting as it has an opera house and Japanese gardens. Kensington Gardens and Palace have some of the most amazing gardens that are steeped in history and you can also get a glimpse at the Royal costume collection, too.

Museums and art galleries will seem to be just about everywhere you look, as well. Sculptures and memorials will seem to be everywhere, with each and every one of them beautiful and awe inspiring. There are also more modern London attractions including the London Eye which offers the world's largest Ferris wheel and glass gondola rides.

Of course, one can only shop, check out churches, parks, and theatres so much, and then eating and sleeping will be on the mind. The West End is often thought of as the best place for eating, drinking, and good quality food. If you feel refreshed after eating, you might want to hit a show. If you are tired, you'll find that there are inns, hotels, and motels just about anywhere you go.

As you can see, there is a lot to do in London. These are just some very general ideas of the fun things to do while vacationing here. You'll be exhausted after seeing so many things, yet there will be another ten vacations worth of things yet to see when you return home. London is a city that you can never get enough of because there are always new things to learn and great things to see.
